Why I started a Blog/What’s happening in my life

Welcome to Simply Cierra! I have already done an About Me page…Feel free to check it out! But I also thought it would be appropriate to do my first blog post about getting to know me a little bit better before I start writing about other topics.

Why am I writing this? I have decided to simply because I want to do so.  I love to write. It is beneficial for me to have a solid piece of writing to look back on. I also use writing as therapy. I feel restored after writing about a conflict in my life.  Additionally, I thought that this would be a great way for friends and family to keep up on what is going on in my life and for me to share with you some of my ideas about anything and everything!

What will I be writing about? This will be a lifestyle blog… pertaining specifically to my life. I will mostly be sharing some interesting things going on in my life such as my relationship, my health and fitness journey, my travels, and even some of my favorite beauty/fashion trends.

My editor 😉 Meet Paisley, my roommate’s adorable French Bulldog!

What’s been happening in my life? I am currently finishing up my last year at Iowa State University studying elementary education. Last semester I made a big decision to take a short break from classes. This much-needed break led to some amazing experiences. I got the opportunity to teach a preschool classroom full-time. I loved this position but working with a classroom full of four-year olds was exhausting and it helped me come to my decision to teach upper elementary.  As well as teaching preschool full-time, I spent a few additional hours a week working part-time as the assistant of the humane education department at my favorite non-profit organization, The Animal Rescue League of Iowa. There I got to combine my two passions in life, teaching children and helping animals. It was a very busy time planning lessons and preparing for camps at the Animal Rescue League and I loved every minute I got to spend there. When I needed a break from work, I would go out to see the adorable animals, giving dogs and cats some much-needed love and attention. Summer quickly came around and I continued my two jobs, but knew I would be saying goodbye to them once the fall semester started. Summer was an extremely busy time for me and it went by more quickly than I would have hoped, but was an unforgettable one. I wanted to make the most of my last few months with my boyfriend,Reggie, before he moved to Midland University to finish up his degree. I made a long summer bucket list of all the fun things that we could do together and to my amazement we crossed off about 25 of the 30, but added many more that were not on the list as the summer continued. We went on several hiking trips around Iowa, made a trip to Sioux Falls and saw the waterfalls, spent a lot of time being tourists in our own state, and ate at several unique places around Iowa.

One of the trails we hiked at Maquoketa Caves State Park.
Our trip to Sioux Falls, SD.

Exploring Ledges State Park.
I even got Reggie to go to a baseball game with me 😉
Our end of the summer boating trip at Lake Red Rock.

We definitely made the most of our time together, but it all too quickly came to an end. It was time to start fall semester and surprisingly enough, taking that semester off did not put me as behind as I had thought. I am still exactly where I want to be and even graduating a semester early. Success! (Jump forward!) Fall of 2018 will be an exciting change for me. If everything goes according to plan, I will be moving to Omaha to do my student teaching. I am excited to move out of Iowa and get to explore a new city and state, even though Nebraska is very similar to Iowa. The reason I have chosen to student teach in Omaha is because it is one of the few out-of-state options; also (main reason) it is very close to Midland University where  Reggie is currently on a scholarship to play basketball at. On the note of my relationship, I have been dating Reggie for just shy of a year and a half now. We will be celebrating our 18 months at the end of October. Mid-August, Reggie went from being 30 minutes away from me, to  3-hours away . It has been quite the adjustment going from spending almost every day together to just a weekend every three weeks, but we are starting to adapt into our new routines. It helps that we both are very busy, but it is still hard going weeks without seeing him and weekends always go by way too quickly. Staying busy helps pass time in between visits , but a demanding schedule is both a blessing and a curse. I am currently balancing a very busy life:  being a full time student and working two jobs (assistant teacher at a daycare and a waitress on the weekends). Additionally to working and being a student I try to fit in workouts, make time for the people in my life, and keep up with whatever else life throws at me.  I have become reasonably good at finding the balance and, although it sometimes feels like I am running through life, I really enjoy keeping active. In the short amount of time I do get to myself, I really enjoy watching Netflix(Grey’s Anatomy mostly), exploring new places, and spending time with the people I love. I am excited to be able to share more about my life with you through this blog. I have a lot of exciting things planned and I can’t wait to tell you all about it!  I hope this gave you a little bit of insight on who I am and what I am planning on doing. Look for my next post next Sunday…I will post every Sunday morning.

. Have a great week! XO!
