Payson, Arizona

Tonto Natural Bridge State Park

One of the best parts about travelling is getting to view and experience a landscape that is completely different from your normal. For someone who lives along the beach, seeing enormous, tall coniferous trees is unusual for them; The same way a beach is unusual for someone who lives in a mountain range.

It’s one of my favorite parts about travelling, the new sights, smells, wildlife, and just the opportunity to explore the outdoors with a renewed sense of child-like awe and curiosity.

I think it’s one of the beauties of nature, both the simplicity and the complexity coexisting alongside each other. When one is in nature, they’re able to disconnect from the chaos that consumes our world now and they find themselves able to reconnect with what has always been around them. It’s a chance to wind down and bring your mind back to a place where everything makes sense.

When I was younger we would always make day-trips up north if my parents had the time and money. It was almost a rare treat to see the natural skyscrapers that lined the hills up north and I loved to listen to the wind pass through the trees.

A major tourist spot up north is the Tonto Natural Bridge that’s just a few minutes outside of Payson, Arizona. It’s an amazing thing to see and a gorgeous (although difficult) hike to traverse! The fact that, given time, water and wind can erode away so much land that you’re left with something like this is amazing to me.

If you’re ever interested in visiting, or just happen to be around Payson and find yourself bored, don’t miss out and take a look around. I promise, the view at the top of the ridge is beautiful and the height of the bridge will impress you!
